[J] Would I be friends with this person if he was still alive?

If Commodore John Barry was still alive, I would be friends with him. I would be friends with John Barry beause of his personality. He is a very strong leader and he knows how to take charge when he needs to. John Barry was a very important person in American History because he made a big difference for our country.

[H] What I did for a living

Basically, what I did for a living was start learning about life on the sea at a very young age, working hard at it while learning more and more, and take command over the US army and ships. I made all of my life goals and dreams come true by staying on task and focusing. I had all the support I can possibly get from my army and crew. Without their loyalty, I wouldnt be this popular in American History.

[G] My Birthplace and my lifestyle

I already stated before, that I am from Ireland.

Ireland is the third largest island in europe and it is the twentieth-largest island in the world. It is located to the north-west of continental Europe East of Ireland, separated by the Irish Sea, is the island of King Brittan. The population of Ireland is slightly over six million (in 2007) My lifestyle was mainly just fishing, sailing, exploring, commanding, and learning.

[F] Who were my foes?

Honestly, I didn'y have any "enemies" or "foes" in my life. Unless you count the people who did bad to our country. I guess you can consider them enemies. However, as a naval officer and commandore, I was just doing my job and getting rid of theese people. I was always a good person at heart and never tried to do bad. I had a loyal ship crew, a participating US Navy, and warm hearted people in my country.

[E] Some notable facts about me

1.) I was given the name/title"Father of the American Navy"

2.) I was born in a cottage in 1745 in Ballysampson, Our Lady's Island, County Wexford. An area with a strong maritime tradition.

3.) Sadly, my father was a poor tenant farmer who was later evicted by his cruelm, British landlord.

4.) My uncle, Nicholas Barry, was the captain of a fishing skiff, and as a young lad, I was determined at an early age to follow my uncle to sea.

5.) I first started out as a ship's cabin boy.

6.) I grew to become a muscular, tall, and very well respected seaman.

[D] How did I meet my death?

I remained head of the US Navy until the sad day of my death on September 12, 1803. I died because of my harsh complications of asthma. On September 14, 1803, two days after my death, I received a salute given by my whole country in a full military burial in Philadelphia's Old St. Mary's Churchyard. "Such was the man, John Barry, a gallant mariner who served his Nation well and stood tall in the annals of American naval history."

[C] What was I "famous" or "infamous" for?

As I mentioned earlier before, I am famous for being a commander and a Naval Officer. I took command over a handful of ships in my time and I have captured many people who did no good to our country. I was a very important person in American history but most of the reasons were mentioned in Post [A] I did much for our country. There is even a statue of me in front of Independence Hall. Although, I wish more people would see what a difference I made for our country today. Alot of the opportunities we have now, came from my strong leadership in the past.

[B] What role did I play in the building of our nation?

I played a great role in the building of our nation. While the American War of Independence was taking place, I was appointed to take command of the brig "Lexington" and captured the British tender, Edward. It was the first ship to ever be taken by a commissioned officer of the US Navy. In 1781, while I was in command of another ship, the "Alliance", I captured the two British ships, "Trepassy" and "Atlanta".

My great, outstanding record during the American War of Independence earned me prestige and I was officially pronounced the senior captain. Senior Captain was the highest post anyone can get in the Navy during that time period. That is how i was given the title of "commodore". A while after helping supervise the reorganization of the US Navy in 1794, I was made commander of one of the Navy's new flagships which was, the United States. I directed American naval operations in the West Indies from 1798 to 180 1.

[A] Who am I and when and where was I born?

Well, Lets start off by saying, I am Commonder John Barry. I was born in Ireland in the year of 1745. However, when I got a little older, I was adopted in Philideplhia and raised there. I came to America around 1760. It was the most exciting part of my life. I am honored to tell you that I became an American naval officer. I was noted for my great achievements as a commander in the United States Navy during the time of the American War of Independence.
